Avocado trees are extremely attractive and are evergreen. The Hass variety is easily the most common variety being medium sized with "pebbled"fruits which are nutty in flavoured. The fruit usually matures between November and March but is best left to darken and soften before eating. The soil needs to be extremely well drained for avocados to do well.If the soil is too wet they will not survive, the leaves turn yellow then brown before dropping off. Hass Avocados require all day sun, and must be protected from the wind and frost when young. As an avocado will deveop into a large tree it is important to consider sufficient space exists where it is planted. Hass avocados are rich in monosaturated oils and vitamin A + B but are low in sugar and colesterol. They are great in salads ,eaten raw or used in your cooking.
